An 18-year-old man has been arrested on a homicide charge after allegedly stabbing a woman to her death on a Washington street, authorities said.
The suspect, who police did not identify, is charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder, said Deputy Police Chief Anthony Harrell.
The motive for the stabbing was not immediately clear.
Harrell said the victim, who was wearing a pink and white striped dress shirt, was struck by the suspect’s knife.
He suffered multiple cuts and abrasions, he said.
“The victim was a vibrant young woman, who we have the utmost respect for,” Harrell said.
“She was a good, hard-working mother and grandmother.
She loved her children.
She was the kind of person who would never do anything that could jeopardize their safety.”
I think the community will be very pleased to know that this person is behind bars,” Harra said.
An 18-month-old baby girl was found in the area of West Virginia Avenue and Maryland Street on Sunday afternoon.
It is unknown if the baby was the victim of the homicide.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other details about the victim were immediately available.
