RTE 2 Marbles article The Best Marble Images article Best marble sculptures have a rich history in Ireland and have helped shape the national identity of the country, with a range of styles and subjects, including marble, art and architecture.
The collection is now at the heart of a new exhibition, The Great Marble, at the National Museum of Ireland, which will open on Thursday.
The exhibition is curated by Anne O’Brien, an Irish graduate of the School of Architecture at the University of Ulster.
The show features a wide range of sculptures and works of art by more than 150 artists, from the likes of Giorgio Armani to Edward Bellamy, who are represented in the exhibition.
